Pretty soon, Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris will be hitting the road together. Will they also be collaborating?
ET’s Nancy O'Dell caught up with Morris on the red carpet of the 2019 ACM Awards, where she talked up about her whirlwind month since releasing her new album, GIRL, and the possibility of writing new music with the country music legend.
"It's been a crazy month. It’s been a month since my album came out and we started a tour and have done all this promo," she said, gracing the red carpet in a gorgeous lavender gown that she paired with vibrant lavender eye shadow. She added, "Coming into the ACMs, it’s been crazy but fun. You know they told me I broke the streaming record for a woman in country for ever. It’s just not computing."
She’s referring to destroying the record for the most streamed album by a woman in country music, with a whopping 24 million streams.
"I mean, I don’t even know how to wrap my head around a number like that," she said. "I am honored. And, you know, it was a labor of love to make the record and put it out. It’s just very validating."
When asked about Lambert surprising fans at her Nashville show in March and the possibility of a song together, Morris responded, "Well, we’re going on tour together later this fall, so maybe we’ll write a song together when we’re out. ... I mean, she’s such a great friend. And to be able to support her on the road this year, it’s going to be really fun for me. And I feel like I am going to learn a lot."
O’Dell also asked Morris about the recent revelation that she was rejected by not one or two but three singing competitions -- America’s Got Talent, The Voice and American Idol -- before making a name for herself.
"You know, there’s just so many people that audition, people fall through the cracks," she answered. "I think Hillary Scott and Lady [Antebellum] were rejected from American Idol as well. I think it all worked out."
When asked for her advice to others who’ve been rejected, she said: "I would say, if you got rejected from one of those auditions or whatever, just be patient and keep at it. Sometimes the long road is a more fruitful one."
