Cynthia Nixon Explains Why Sara Ramírez's 'And Just Like That' Character Che Diaz Will Not Be in Season 3

Cynthia Nixon confirmed Sara Ramírez's 'And Just Like That' character Che Diaz's 'arc was completed.'

And just like that, Che Diaz is no more.

Three months after Variety reported that Sara Ramírez would not be reprising their divisive And Just Like That role as the stand-up comic, their on-screen romantic counterpart, Cynthia Nixon, has addressed the end of the road for the character.

In a new interview with Variety, Nixon, who has portrayed Diaz's ex, Miranda Hobbes, on And Just Like That and its famed predecessor, Sex and the City, weighed in on Ramírez's role after two seasons of the Max sequel series.

"They created such an amazing character -- such a controversial character, but such an amazing character," Nixon said of Ramírez. "I think they felt, and Michael Patrick [King] felt, that that character had run its course. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed."

Regardless of where fans stand on Diaz's departure, they're not the only character in Miranda's orbit that fans won't be seeing again -- at least for right now. In March, it was confirmed that The Morning Show's Karen Pittman, who joined the series as Miranda's professor-turned-roommate, Nya Wallace, would not be returning for the third season

"It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…," a Max spokesperson told ET in a statement. "As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others. Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn't possible."

"Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That…," the statement continued. "Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors."

While it remains to be seen if Pittman will pop back up in a future season -- or if her character will still exist in the And Just Like That universe à la Samantha Jones -- another familiar face is newly on board: Rosie O'Donnell. In May, the actress revealed she will be playing a character named Mary in at least the first episode.

As the comedian quipped in her Instagram announcement, "Here comes Mary."
