'What We Do in the Shadows' to End With Upcoming Sixth Season

The sun is coming up on What We Do in the ShadowsThe show will not return following its sixth season, multiple reports stated Tuesday. 

Based on the 2014 feature film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is a vampire comedy that highlights the nightly adventures of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). Together, the group must navigate Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

During its highly successful run on FX, the show earned multiple Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. It also won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2022, and is now up for Best Comedy Series at the Critics Choice Television Awards in January. At the same ceremony, Novak is also nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, and Guillén for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. 

FX last announced a renewal for the series in 2022, when they ordered a fifth and sixth season. Season 5 premiered on July 13 and concluded on Aug. 31. Season 6 has yet to air. 

Guillén spoke to ET about the show multiple times throughout its run, once saying that the writing "just keeps getting better and better. And I don't know how the writers do it." 

"I've been like, 'Wow.' Every year just keeps getting better and better," he told ET in 2022.
