'Say Anything' TV Series In the Works? Not So Fast

Don't get those boomboxes out just yet. Say Anything, the 1989 romcom that put John Cusack on the map, could be re-imagined as a TV show ...but not if the film's director Cameron Crowe has anything to do with it.

reports that 20th Century Fox and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment is planning to do a single-camera series based on the beloved film. In Say Anything the movie, a noble underachiever, Lloyd Dobler (Cusack), and a beautiful valedictorian, Diane Court (Ione Skye), fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.

The trade website points out that Crowe has no involvement in the series and, according to the director's Twitter, he's not a fan of this idea. "Regarding the announcement of a 'Say Anything' tv show," he wrote, "@JohnCusack, @IoneSkye1 and I have no involvement... except in trying to stop it."

Cusack also responded to one of his followers who asked if he was involved in the project by saying: "Hell no !!"

A rep for NBC has confirmed to BuzzFeed Newsthat 20th Century Fox is not going forward with the project.

Would you have supported a Say Anything TV show?

Back in Aug. 2013, it was reported that Reality Biteswould also be re-imagined as a TV show. No updates on that thus far but let's rewind to ET's set visit of the 1994 film.
