Prince Harry is opening up about his father, King Charles III’s, cancer diagnosis, all the while expressing his love for his family and gratitude for being able to visit his ailing father.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the Duke of Sussex reflected on the potential impact his father's illness has on their family dynamics.
"I love my family," the 39-year-old father of two stated during an interview with Will Reeve. "The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that."
When asked about the possibility of King Charles' cancer bringing the family closer together, Harry responded affirmatively, saying, "Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure." He highlighted the strength of the family unit during challenging times, stating that illness often serves to unite relatives.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are currently in Canada, where they recently spent Valentine’s Day together at the Invictus Games 2025's Winter Training Camp in Whistler. During their trip, Harry is participating in various winter sports, including skeleton sledding.
Harry's interview with GMA comes shortly after King Charles, 75, returned to London to undergo further cancer treatment. The monarch revealed his diagnosis on Feb. 5 and has since begun outpatient treatment.
In a statement released over the weekend, Charles expressed gratitude for the support he has received and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about cancer.
The Palace initially disclosed Charles' diagnosis following a procedure for an enlarged prostate, during which doctors identified "a separate issue of concern" requiring treatment. Buckingham Palace clarified that the cancer was not prostate cancer.
Prince Harry's urgent flight to London upon learning of his father's diagnosis saw him spending just 24 hours on home soil before returning to Montecito, California, where he resides with Meghan and their children.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke with ET recently and shared some insight into the state of their relationship and how Harry has handled the news of his father's illness.
"His father personally telephoned him to inform him of his cancer diagnosis, [and] Harry jumped on the overnight flight from Los Angeles," Nicholl shared, adding that when he arrived in London, Harry "came straight to Clarence House for what we understand was a brief meeting with his father."
"One could only imagine that it would have been an emotional reunion," Nicholl said. "Because they haven't seen each other since the King's coronation, and then they didn't get to spend very much time together at all."
According to Nicholl, Charles "desperately wants to reconcile with Harry," so he can have a real relationship with both his son and his grandchildren.
Harry and Meghan are parents to 4-year-old son Archie and 2-year-old daughter Lilibet.
