Rene Russo Reveals Her Battle With Bipolar Disorder On 'The Queen Latifah Show'

The 'Nightcrawler' star unexpectedly revealed that she's been suffering from bipolar disorder since she was a child.

During an appearance on The Queen Latifah Show, actress Rene Russo got surprisingly candid when she revealed that she has been suffering from bipolar disorder since she was a child.

Russo and actor Jake Gyllenhaal were on the show to promote their upcoming crime drama Nightcrawler, when Latifah asked the stars to talk about a difficult in their lives that they've had to "push through."

After a moment of hesitation, Russo stunned Latifah, Gyllenhaal, and the audience when she said, "bipolar medication."

Bipolar disorder is an affliction characterized by unexpected shifts between periods of elevated mood and activity, and sudden depression, along with loss of energy.

Russo explained that, according to her mother, her whole childhood was "stop and go" and that one day she "hit a wall" and decided that it was time to get help for her condition.

And the 60-year-old star shared a message for other people suffering through similar disorders, but are afraid to confront their problems.

"It's okay, you know? It's okay. You will make it through," Russo said. "It's not easy, but you will make it through.

Russo and Gyllenhaal co-star in the upcoming crime thriller Nightcrawler, which is the directorial debut for Russo's husband Dan Gilroy. Check out this creepy trailer for Night crawler, which is set to hit theaters October 31.
