2011 Emmy Nominations Are Out: 'Mildred Pierce' and 'Mad Men' Most Nominated
The 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced this morning by Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson, with HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" starring Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood leading the pack with 21 nominations, including a best actress nomination for Kate. Unsurprisingly, "Mad Men" was the most nominated television series with 19 Emmy Award nominations total, including one for best drama.
"Boardwalk Empire," "Modern Family," "Saturday Night Live," "Game of Thrones," "30 Rock" and "Glee" were also among the most nominated television series.
In other notable news from this morning's announcements in Los Angeles, "Friday Night Lights" finally got its nomination for best drama series for its final season, after repeatedly getting snubbed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in previous years in that category. In another surprise move, "The Kennedys," which was dropped by the History channel and picked up by the lesser-known ReelzChannel, received 10 nominations, including best miniseries, but did not nab a nomination for Katie Holmes for her much buzzed-about role as first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
"Glee"'s Jane Lynch will host the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards airing live from Los Angeles on September 18th.
