The actor's pinky ring was given to him by a special person.

Colman Domingo is honoring Bayard Rustin with his Golden Globes look. On Sunday, the 54-year-old actor stepped out to attend the 81st annual ceremony, and told ET's Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier about a special piece of jewelry he was sporting.

"I have Bayard Rustin's pinky ring on," Domingo told ET of the civil rights icon he portrays in the Golden Globe-nominated filmRustin. "I was gifted by Walter Naegle, his partner. [He told me], 'I think I want you to have some of his jewelry.' He said, 'Take some with you.' I chose this in particular, which is an agate. It's so beautiful. It makes a lot of sense. I feel like I'll keep this for a long time."

As for Domingo's outfit, the actor praised, "Louis Vuitton did a beautiful, beautiful custom fit for me."

"We collaborated on something with a Nehru collar. Nehru was a contemporary colleague of Bayard Rustin," he added of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. "He stands for peace and love and light, and so that's why I'm wearing a Nehru collar. I want to feel sort of regal. It feels like a coronation."

In addition to Domingo's Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama nomination, the actor played Mister in The Color Purple. Two of his female co-stars in the latter project, Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks, are nominated for their performances at Sunday's ceremony.

"I believe it's one of the best films. I believe it's gorgeous, it is epic, it is about resilience," he told ET of The Color Purple. "[It's] really important to families. [It's] about forgiveness, about trauma, and with all of its dancing and songs, it's beautiful. I'm very proud of it. I'm proud of what it's been doing in the box office, which is great. I feel like it's wild."

"I think it's working in concert with Rustin because it's really an examination of who we are and who we wanna be," Domingo added. "... I think that's why I'm feeling so proud to be standing in the middle of these two films that I feel like are moving the needle forward in our humanity."
