Who's in line for the throne?

Another royal baby is here! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child together, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6, 2019, according to their official Instagram account. Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She was born on April 21, 1926, and ascended to the throne in 1952, after the death of her father, King George VI.

1. Charles, Prince of Wales

Currently, the next apparent heir to the throne, after Queen Elizabeth II, is her son Prince Charles.

2. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

Prince Charles' eldest son is second in the line of succession to the British throne after his father. The former member of the British Armed Forces is married to Kate Middleton, with whom he has three children.

3. Prince George of Cambridge

The pint-sized prince has a habit of stealing the spotlight with his adorable antics at royal family functions. Though he’s still a young man, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton could be a future king—he is currently third in line for the throne.

4. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

8. Prince Andrew, Duke of York

The queen's second son has served in the Royal Navy. He was married to Sarah Ferguson from 1986 to 1996, and the couple had two daughters together: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

11. Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex

The queen's third son has assumed many duties from his father, Prince Philip, who has cut back on his involvement due to his age. Prince Edward is the resident of the Commonwealth Games Federation and supports Queen Elizabeth II in her official duties.

Queen Elizabeth II's only daughter appears later in the line of succession because, until the 2013 Succession to the Crown Act, princes took precedence over their older sisters. Children born after Oct. 28, 2011, like Princess Charlotte, do not face this issue.

15. Peter Phillips

Zara and Mike Tindall's youngest daughter hasn't made too many appearances yet, since being born in June 2018. Her name is Lena Elizabeth, which has prompted many royal watchers to believe it's a tribute to Zara's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

The furniture maker and former chairman of the auction house Christie's UK is the son of Queen Elizabeth II's deceased sister, Princess Margaret.
