Blake Shelton Celebrates Gwen Stefani's Birthday: A Timeline of Their Romance

<p>Bob Barker, television veteran and former<em>&nbsp;</em>host of<em>&nbsp;The Price Is Right,</em>&nbsp;has died, ET has confirmed. He was 99.</p>

<p>In a statement to ET, Barker's longtime publicist, Roger Neal, said, "It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World's Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us." Neal also said that, per Barker's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service held in his honor. He'll be laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy Jo, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. Jo died in 1981.</p>

<p>According to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/08/26/bob-barker-dead-dies-99-price-is-right-game-show-host/" id="OWAb3a5855d-2ebf-3ecd-d312-268c912c0c02" rel="" target="_blank">TMZ</a>, who first broke the story, Barker died of natural causes Saturday morning at his home in Los Angeles.</p>

<p>Barker's&nbsp;longtime girlfriend, Nancy Burnet, had overseen Barker's health and care for many years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I am so proud of the trailblazing work Barker, and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry and including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally," she said in a statement. "We were great friends over these 40 yrs. he will be missed."</p>

<p>A spokesperson for CBS, home of <em>The Price Is Right</em>, issued a statement on the passing of the TV legend.</p>

<p>"We lost a beloved member of the CBS family today with the passing of Bob Barker. During his 35 years as host of THE PRICE IS RIGHT, Bob made countless people’s dreams come true and everyone feel like a winner when they were called to 'come on down,'" the statement read. "In addition to his legendary 50-year career in broadcasting, Bob will be remembered as a dedicated animal rights activist. Daytime television has lost one of its most iconic stars."</p>

<p>Robert William Barker&nbsp;was born in Darrington, Washington, but he spent his childhood on a South Dakota Native American Reservation where his mother worked as a teacher. The family moved to Missouri following the death of Barker’s father.</p>

<p>Barker made a name in television,&nbsp;but his broadcasting career began in radio. After graduating from college in 1953, Barker landed his first official media job&nbsp;at a small Missouri radio station.&nbsp;He later&nbsp;moved to Florida to work as a new editor and announcer at another&nbsp;radio station, until a&nbsp;leap of faith brought&nbsp;him to California. The&nbsp;move&nbsp;paid off as Barker landed his first&nbsp;national hosting job on&nbsp;<i>Truth or&nbsp;Consequences</i>&nbsp;in 1953. He&nbsp;went on to host the show for two decades.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I came out here, no agent, no contacts, every reason to starve, and no reason to survive," he&nbsp;previously shared with ET about his early days in the business. "I was able to get a radio show going and Ralph Edwards, the owner of&nbsp;<em>Truth or Consequences</em>, was driving down the street and he heard my radio show on his car radio. He called me to audition for&nbsp;<em>Truth or&nbsp;Consequences</em>. He had sold the show but he had not found the host that he wanted. He called me for an audition and I became the host of a national television show just overnight. It was the break of my lifetime."</p>

<p>Barker scored another break in 1972 when&nbsp;<i>The Price is Right&nbsp;</i>premiered on CBS. The game show made a triumphant return to&nbsp;television after its predecessor (which was hosted by Bill Cullen)&nbsp;ended in 1963. With Barker as host,&nbsp;<em>The Price is Right</em>&nbsp;became one of the longest-running game shows in history.</p>

<p>By the 1980s, Barker&nbsp;secured his place as one of the most popular game show hosts on television. Meanwhile,&nbsp;his personal life took a serious hit.&nbsp;Dorothy Gideon, Barker's high school sweetheart and wife of 35 years, died of lung cancer in 1981. The couple had no children and Barker never remarried.</p>

<p>Barker once referred to Gideon his most "treasured possession" while reminiscing&nbsp;about their first meeting.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"She was sitting on the Veranda at the hotel where I worked," Barker once shared with&nbsp;ET. "There was a deck of cards there. She reached into the deck and pulled out the 10 of spades and she said, 'Here, this will be your luck.'&nbsp;And I've had this for 60 years and on the other side is Dorothy Joe."</p>

<p>For much of his&nbsp;career,&nbsp;Barker maintained a mostly jovial persona as a fun-loving game show host and animal rights activist. He once described the chemistry on set of&nbsp;<em>The Price Is Right</em>&nbsp;as a family environment.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have people who have been here for 20 years, 22 years, 23 years, a couple of us have been here all 28 years and we are a family," Barker&nbsp;explained to ET. "We know our jobs and we do them and do them to the best of our ability and each of us respects the other person and his abilities and it works."</p>

<p>Things began to change in 1994, when a former&nbsp;<em>Price Is Right&nbsp;</em>model filed the first of&nbsp;<a href="http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/09/12/price-is-right-model-lawsuit-latest-in-a-history-of-harassment-claims/" id="OWA558ae6e6-e728-fc70-ecd1-2d7efd9d6f55" target="_blank">multiple lawsuits</a>&nbsp;alleging&nbsp;sexual harassment, racial discrimination, wrongful termination and gender bias.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Barker retired from the&nbsp;<em>Price Is Right</em>&nbsp;in 2007.&nbsp;He spent his final years mostly out of the spotlight.&nbsp;</p>

Bob Barker, ‘Price Is Right’ Host, Dead at 99

<p>Music icon and 19-time GRAMMY winner <a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/tony-bennett" rel="" target="_blank">Tony Bennett</a>&nbsp;has died. He was 96.</p>

<p>Bennett's publicist, Sylvia Weiner, confirmed the news of his death in a statement to ET. The legendary singer died in his hometown of New York on Friday, just two weeks shy of his birthday. While there was no specific cause of death named, Bennett had previously been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the statement, Bennett often said in later life that he hoped to be remembered "as a nice person."&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a post shared on Bennett's official Instagram account, a heartwarming detail about his final days at home was revealed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Tony left us today but he was still singing the other day at his piano and his last song was, 'Because of You,' his first&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/1/" role="link" tabindex="0">#1</a>&nbsp;hit," the caption reads, alongside a beautiful black and white image of the singer in his younger years. "Tony, because of you we have your songs in our heart forever. ❤</p>

<p>In February 2021,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/tony-bennett-announces-hes-been-battling-alzheimers-disease-159852" target="_blank">Bennett's family revealed to fans</a> that the legendary musician had been battling&nbsp;Alzheimer's disease and was first diagnosed in 2016.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alzheimers-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20350447" target="_blank">According to the Mayo Clinic</a>, Alzheimer's disease is defined as "a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die, and is&nbsp;the most common cause of dementia — a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affects a person's ability to function independently."</p>

<p>After hearing of his death, The Alzheimer’s Association released a statement in honor of the music legend. "Following his diagnosis, Bennett was an incredible advocate for the cause, sharing his story publicly to help reduce stigma and elevate the conversation on behalf of the millions of families facing the disease," Joanne Pike, DrPH, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, said in part. "The Alzheimer’s Association joins the world in mourning the loss of Tony Bennett, a great friend and champion of the cause. For decades, Tony inspired the world with his music and, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he continued to use that powerful voice to make a very real difference in inspiring action and change."</p>

<p>She added, "For the Bennett family, and the millions of others impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia, we will continue our work of increasing awareness and education, providing families support, and advancing research and treatments, to slow, stop and ultimately, cure Alzheimer’s disease."</p>

<p>With more than 70 years in music, Bennett&nbsp;built a life that was lightyears away from his upbringing. Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on Aug. 3, 1926 in Astoria,&nbsp;Queens, New York, he was the first among his siblings, John&nbsp;and Mary, to be born in a hospital. Having been raised in the throes&nbsp;of the&nbsp;Great Depression, Bennett came up in a poor household, with his&nbsp;mother working&nbsp;as a&nbsp;seamstress and his father as a&nbsp;grocer.&nbsp;The family's financial strain worsened after his father died when Bennett&nbsp;was 10 years old.</p>

<p>As a teenager, Bennett dropped out of high school and worked as a singer and waiter to help support the family. He went on to serve in the Army infantry during the tail end of World War II and used the GI bill to pay for his college education at the American Theatre Wing where he studied singing. Splitting his time between school and working as a waiter, Bennett learned different singing styles and booked small performances. In 1949, Emmy-winning actress and singer Pearl Bailey hired him as&nbsp;her opening act for a performance in Greenwich Village. Bob Hope happened to be seated in the audience and opted to take Bennett on the road. It was Hope who encouraged him to shorten his birth name -- Anthony Dominick Beneditto -- to the stage moniker: Tony Bennett.</p>

<p>Bennett’s music career began to take shape in the 1950s with the&nbsp;hits "Jeepers Creepers," "Chicago," and the collaborative album with Count Basie, <em>Strike Up the Band</em>. In 1962, Bennett released "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," a&nbsp;single that became a staple in his music&nbsp;catalog, and earned him his first GRAMMY. While the song's popularity paved the way for&nbsp;others hit singles&nbsp;like "I Wanna Be Around" and "The Good Life," Bennett’s career stalled as contemporary rock began to dominate music -- and his personal life wasn’t doing much better. In 1969, his first wife, Patricia Beech, from whom he had been separated for five years, sued him for divorce on grounds of adultery. Beech and Bennett had two sons, Danny&nbsp;and Daegal. The divorce was finalized in 1971, and Bennett&nbsp;moved on to a relationship with&nbsp;Sandra Grant, an aspiring actress whom he wed that year. The couple moved from New York to Los Angeles and welcomed two daughters, Joanna and Antonia.</p>

<p>As Bennett's&nbsp;career grew, so did his struggles with Columbia Records. At the time, The Beatles were taking&nbsp;over music, and the record label wanted Bennett to branch out into a rock sound. Bennett cut&nbsp;ties with Columbia in the early '70s and founded his own imprint, Improv Records, under which he recorded <i>The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album</i> and<i> Together Again</i>. Despite critical acclaim, the&nbsp;albums failed to produce any major hits which in turn&nbsp;forced the label out of business by the close of the decade.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subsequently, Bennett took a break from the music business, and Bennett and Grant divorced in 2007. That year, he wed his third wife, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/202991_tony_bennett_claims_he_met_his_wife_before_she_was_born" target="_blank">Susan Crow</a>. The couple remained together until Bennett's death.</p>

<p>In 1986, Bennett -- who was being managed by his oldest son, Danny -- resigned with Columbia Records and unveiled <i>The Art of Excellence</i>, his first album in a decade. With his son’s help, Bennett saw a resurgence. He made the rounds on the late-night circuit, appearing on David Letterman and Jay Leno’s shows, guest starred on <em>The Simpsons</em>, and parlayed his <em>MTV Unplugged</em> performance into a GRAMMY win.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bennett released multiple albums throughout the ‘90s, including <em>Perfectly Frank</em>, a holiday LP, and a project of children’s songs titled&nbsp;<i>Tony Bennett: The Playground</i>.</p>

<p>But choosing the perfect collaborations was his sweet spot. He worked with k.d. Lang on the GRAMMY-winning album<i>&nbsp;A Wonderful World</i>, followed by <em>The Art of Romance</em>, <i>Duets: An American Classic</i>, which marked&nbsp;his 80th birthday, and<i> Duets II</i>, featuring Lady Gaga as well as Amy Winehouse’s final recording prior to her death in 2011. The Winehouse duet netted a GRAMMY for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. The following year, Bennett released <i>Viva Duets</i>, a Latin-themed project with appearances from Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bennett also filmed the documentary,&nbsp;<em>The&nbsp;</em><i>Zen of Bennett</i>, chronicling the recording process of <em>Duets II</em>, and reteamed with Gaga for&nbsp;2014’s <a href="https://www.etonline.com/music/151969_tony_bennett_and_lady_gaga_beat_kenny_chesney_for_the_number_1_album_of_the_week" target="_blank"><i>Cheek to Cheek</i></a>, which earned the first in another trio of consecutive GRAMMYs for Bennett. <i>Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern</i> and&nbsp;<i>Tony Bennett Celebrates 90 </i>won GRAMMYs for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2016 and 2018.&nbsp;Bennett’s last studio album was <i>Love Is Here to Stay</i>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He won his last GRAMMY Award for his final album, 2021's <em>Love For Sale</em>, which was a collaborative effort with Lady Gaga.</p>

<p>On top of all this, Bennett&nbsp;was a published author, a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, a philanthropist, and a talented painter whose work has been featured&nbsp;in the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The beloved singer, doting husband and loving father is survived by his wife, Susan Benedetto, his two sons, Danny and Dae Bennett, his daughters, Johanna Bennett and Antonia Bennett, and nine grandchildren.</p>

Tony Bennett, Legendary Singer, Dead at 96

<p>Harry Belafonte -- the legendary actor, producer, activist and multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter known as the "Calypso King" -- has died of congestive heart failure at his home in New York, ET can confirm. He was 96.</p>

<p>In addition to his children, Adrienne Belafonte Biesemeyer, Shari Belafonte, Gina Belafonte, David Belafonte, and his two stepchildren, Sarah Frank and Lindsey Frank, he leaves behind eight grandchildren: Rachel Blue Biesemeyer, Brian Biesemeyer, Maria Belafonte McCray, Sarafina Belafonte, Amadeus Belafonte, Mateo Frank, Olive Scanga, and Zoe Frank.</p>

<p>Amadeus, Sarafina, Malena, and David&nbsp;released a statement to ET saying, "It is with a heavy heart that we have said goodbye to our beloved dad, father-in-law, and grandpa, the beyond amazing Harry Belafonte. To the world he was a legend, but to us he was Dad, Harry, Farfar - which means Grandpa in Danish - and he will always mean the world to us. We are heartbroken to have lost such a big presence in our lives and we will honor him in everything we do.</p>

<p>They continued, "His legacy is passed on to his four children, Adrienne, Shari, David, and Gina, as well as his five grandchildren, Rachel Blue, Brian, Maria, Sarafina, and Amadeus, all of whom he was so incredibly proud of. He also leaves behind his ex-wife Julie, sparring partner for 50+ years and the mother of his youngest children David and Gina, along with his third and current wife Pam, as well as his in-laws David Biesemeyer, Sam, Scott, and Malena. We will miss him terribly!"</p>

<p>The Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor's credits include&nbsp;<i>Uptown Saturday Night, Island in the Sun</i>, <i>Odds Against Tomorrow</i>, <i>Carmen Jones, The World, </i>the<i> Flesh and the Devil</i>, <i>White Man's Burden</i>, and most recently, Spike Lee’s 2018 film, <i><a href="https://www.etonline.com/blackkklansman-star-laura-harrier-on-auditioning-for-spike-lee-black-representation-beyonce-108103" target="_blank">BlacKkKlansman</a></i><i>.</i></p>

<p>In childhood, Belafonte lived somewhat nomadically, traveling between the Caribbean and New York City, where he was born on March 1, 1940. The son of Jamaican immigrants, Belafonte&nbsp;spent his pre-teen years living in Jamaica with his grandmother before moving back to Harlem, New York, where he attended high school.</p>

<p>After joining the Navy during World War I, Belafonte returned to the Big Apple to find work. Unsure of what he wanted to do as a profession, he initially worked as a janitor’s assistant. “The job could not be considered artistic, but I did the job artistically," he <a href="https://www.npr.org/2011/10/12/141243628/harry-belafonte-out-of-struggle-a-beautiful-voice" target="_blank">told NPR</a> in 2011.</p>

<p>“I loved mopping the halls, and I tried to look a little like Charlie Chaplin on skates as I just rushed up and down the hallway with a wet mop, trying to take the boredom out of all day long mopping halls and hauling garbage and stoking furnaces,” he recalled. “But it paid off, because one day I did a repair at a tenant's apartment and they gave me, as a gratuity, two tickets to a theater. So I went to this place, the American Negro Theater, and it was there that the universe opened for me.”</p>

<p>Sitting in the audience was an exciting, albeit “overwhelming,” experience for Belafonte who intern discovered his talent for performing. He&nbsp;also met fellow actor, Sidney&nbsp;Poitier, whom he regarded as his “first friend.” The two co-starred together in <i>Buck and the Preacher</i>, Poitier’s&nbsp;1972 directorial film debut, and remained friends for decades.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having sparked a fire for the stage, Belafonte enrolled in New York City’s Dramatic Workshop of the New School (he continued working as a janitor’s assistant to pay for the classes) studying alongside then up-and-comers,&nbsp;Bea Arthur, Marlon Brando, Walter Matthau, Poitier and other screen legends then in the early stages of their careers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 1953, Belafonte landed his first movie role in <i>Bright Rode</i>, co-starring Dorothy Dandridge. He re-teamed with Dandridge the following year as her love interest in <i>Carmen Jones</i>, the film adaption of Oscar Hammerstein’s Broadway 1943 play.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The World War II-era production earned a Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy. Dandridge also became the <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/181471_halle_berry_says_oscars_lack_of_diversity_since_her_2002_win_is_heartbreaking" target="_blank">first black actress</a>&nbsp;to earn an Oscar nomination in a leading category.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As Belafonte’s acting career began to take flight, so did his music. He signed with RCA Victor and debuted his breakthrough album, <i>Calypso,</i> in 1956<i>. </i>Aside from topping the Billboard charts, <i>Calypso</i> became the first LP to go platinum in a year and featured what became his signature single,&nbsp;“Banana Boat Song” (also known as “Day-O.”).&nbsp;In his 2011 memoir <i>My Song</i>, Belafonte explained the metaphorical roots of Black music, and the underlying meaning of the “Banana Boat Song.”</p>

<p>"The only way that we could speak to the pain and the anguish of our experiences was often through how we codified our stories in the songs that we sang,” he wrote. “And when I sing the 'Banana Boat Song,' the song is a work song. It's about men who sweat all day long, and they are underpaid, and they're begging the tallyman to come and give them an honest count — counting the bananas that I've picked, so I can be paid.”</p>

<p>"People sing and delight and dance and love it, [but] they don't really understand unless they study the song that they're singing a work song that's a song of rebellion.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 1961, Belafonte scored a second platinum album and another smash hit with "Jump the Line," which became the theme song for the 1988 film,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/movies/132520_Beetlejuice_Flashback" target="_blank"><i>Beetlejuice</i></a>.</p>

<p>Music stardom opened a new set of doors for Belafonte, who earned three GRAMMYs, and released a total of 30 studio albums. He became a certified star sharing&nbsp;the stage with jazz greats Max Roach and Miles Davis. He&nbsp;released a joint&nbsp;album with film&nbsp;legend,&nbsp;Lena Horne, and performed at President John F. Kennedy's&nbsp;inaugural ball along with Frank Sinatra.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Belafonte married three times, first to &nbsp;Marguerite Byrd in&nbsp;1948. The couple welcomed&nbsp;two daughters, Shari and Adrienne, prior to their divorce in 1957.&nbsp;Later that year, Belafonte&nbsp;married dancer, Julie Robinson, which would become his longest marriage. The pair welcomed a son and daughter, Gina and David,&nbsp;and were married for nearly 50 years before their split.&nbsp;Belafonte and his third wife, Pamela Frank, tied the knot in 2008.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For more than seven decades, the award-wining entertainer has used his celebrity to illuminate injustice around the globe. Whether he was working side-by-side with <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/156503_21_of_martin_luther_king_jr_s_most_powerful_quotes" target="_blank">Martin Luther King Jr.</a> (including speaking at&nbsp;the 1963 March on Washington) and other pivotal faces of the civil rights movement,or standing up for migrant farmworkers, working in support of LGBTQ, or becoming a voice in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement, Belafonte&nbsp;forged a strong commitment to activism. In fact, in 1968&nbsp;Belafonte became&nbsp;the first Black person to helm&nbsp;a late-night talk show when&nbsp;he&nbsp;hosted <em>The Tonight Show</em> <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/from-mlk-to-bob-kennedy-harry-belafontes-historic-week-as-tonight-show-host" target="_blank">for a week</a>. Johnny Carson turned the show over to Belafonte allowing him a space to bring discussions on&nbsp;racism and Civil Rights protests to the forefront of American television. The week's guests included, MLK, Horne, and Bobby Kennedy. The historic hosting gig is explored&nbsp;in the documentary <a href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-09-10/harry-belafonte-tonight-show-sit-in-peacock-king-kennedy-carson" target="_blank"><em>The Sit-In</em></a>.</p>

<p>During the '80s, Belafonte&nbsp;helped organize the celeb-heavy “We Are the World” charity single in an effort to raise awareness about the global HIV/AIDS crisis.&nbsp;He also became a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, as well as an ambassador for the Bahamas, and was named honorary co-chair of the Women’s March in 2017. Three years later, a doctored video taken from one of his old interviews was posted online by President Donald Trump adviser making it appear as if presidential candidate Joe Biden had fallen asleep during an interview. Belafonte responded by encouraging Americans to vote in the 2020 presidential election. “I beg every sane American: please vote them out,” he <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/08/harry-belafonte-donald-trump-joe-biden-1203027919/" target="_blank">said</a> in part.</p>

<p>Speaking out against injustice, and helping to increase voter participation, were just two of the many pillars&nbsp;of Belafonte's activism and what he believed to be his duty as an artist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Artists are the gatekeepers of truth they are civilization’s moral voice," Belafonte&nbsp;explained in a <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/watch-harry-belafonte-talk-art-and-activism-overcoming-prejudice-125654/" target="_blank">2017 interview</a>. "They are also civilization’s radical voice, so I tied my social activism to my heart, and the two became extricably bound. Because I wanted to make sure that the light and breath of what I had to offer, was bigger than what people wanted to contain me to."</p>

<p><a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/barbara-walters" rel="" target="_blank">Barbara Walters</a>, the legendary Emmy-award winning broadcast journalism pioneer and co-creator of <a href="https://www.etonline.com/barbara-walters-thought-the-view-would-get-canceled-after-she-left-according-to-upcoming-expose" target="_blank"><i>The View</i></a>, has died. She was 93 years old.</p>

<p><a href="https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/barbara-walters-trailblazing-tv-icon-dies-93/story?id=41435083&amp;cid=social_twitter_abcn" rel="" target="_blank">ABC News</a> confirmed the news on Friday. No cause of death was given. Disney CEO Bob Iger <a href="https://twitter.com/RobertIger/status/1609018986360102912" rel="" target="_blank">tweeted</a> that&nbsp;Walters died on Friday evening at her home in New York.</p>

<p>Throughout her more than 50-year career, Walter became a staple in broadcasting, helming the<i>&nbsp;Today </i>show, ABC News, <i>20/20, The View, </i>and<i>&nbsp;</i>her annual <i>Most Fascinating People </i>special, while&nbsp;simultaneously&nbsp;paving the way for other female journalists.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Making a name in an industry dominated by men became an unspoken routine for Walters, who began working for <i>20/20</i> in 1978. Joining the news magazine reunited Walters with her former <i>Today</i> co-host, Hugh Downs, and solidified what became her legacy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Walters was born on September 25, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Boston, Miami and New York, the latter of which is where she launched&nbsp;her journalism career in the early 1950s.</p>

<p>A year after earning a B.A. degree from Sarah Lawrence College, Walters landed a job in the publicity department of NBC affiliate WNBT-TV. She moved on to WPIX, before becoming a writer on CBS'&nbsp;<i>The Morning Show</i> in 1955. Walters went on to join <i>Today </i>as a writer and regular correspondent. She became the first female co-anchor of the long-running morning show in 1974, following the death of anchor Frank McGee.</p>

<p>Two years later, Walters joined <i>ABC Evening News </i>as co-anchor to Harry Reasoner with whom she had a rocky work relationship because he didn't want a co-anchor. By the end of the '70s Walters had moved on to <em>20/20 </em>and slowly became the face of the news program, landing&nbsp;memorable interviews&nbsp;that offered a mixture of hard-hitting news interviews with controversial world leaders like Fidel Castro, President&nbsp;Richard Nixon, Egypt's former president Anwar Sadat, Palestine's Yasir Arafat, and Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez; to celebrity sit-downs with Katherine Hepburn, Christopher Reeve, Angelina Jolie, Sir Laurence Olivier and countless others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 1997, Walters made her return to morning television with the premiere of <i>The View</i>. Although helmed by Walters, the show launched with original co-hosts Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Meredith Vieira, and Joy Behar. <a href="https://www.etonline.com/media/videos/whoopi-goldberg-returns-to-the-view-after-more-than-a-month-long-absence-121511" target="_blank">Whoopi Goldberg</a> and <a href="https://www.etonline.com/media/videos/sherri-shepherd-reveals-why-shell-never-return-to-the-view-panel-exclusive-115592" target="_blank">Sheri Shepherd</a> joined the show in 2007, followed by <a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/rosie-o-donnell" rel="" target="_blank">Rosie O’Donnell</a> and <a href="https://www.etonline.com/elisabeth-hasselbeck-says-she-felt-shocked-and-betrayed-after-view-firing-122159" target="_blank">Elisabeth Hasselbeck</a>, and later <a href="https://www.etonline.com/jenny-mccarthy-hits-whoopi-goldberg-and-barbara-walters-with-wild-accusations-in-the-view-expose" target="_blank">Jenny McCarthy</a>, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/raven-symone" rel="" target="_blank">Raven Symone</a> and more. In 2010, Walters underwent open heart surgery, but the health scare didn't stall her career. By that time, Walters was an iconic figure and continued as co-host and executive producer of <i>The View</i> until her <a href="https://www.etonline.com/tv/146497_former_co_hosts_join_barbara_walters_for_final_view_goodbye" target="_blank">official retirement</a> in 2014. &nbsp;</p>

Walters brushed off many of the reports&nbsp;by either not responding, or denying the numerous&nbsp;rifts between her and other co-hosts.</p>

<p>Although Walters ended&nbsp;her run as co-host of <i>20/20 </i>in 2004, she stayed on board as a part-time contributor for ABC News until 2016. She also returned to&nbsp;<i>The View</i> multiple times as a special guest.</p>

<p>Walters earned an array of accolades over the years,&nbsp;including being inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1989. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007, and earned the lifetime&nbsp;achievement award at the 30th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in 2009.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite being such a public figure, Walters kept the details of her personal life closely guarded until the 2008 release of her best-selling memoir&nbsp;<a href="https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/185438/audition-by-barbara-walters/9780307279965/readers-guide/" target="_blank"><em>Audition</em></a>. In the book, Walters spilled details about her family dynamic, her career,&nbsp;admitted to having an affair with Massachusetts Senator Edward R. Brooke,&nbsp;and opened up about her relationship with Alan Greenspan, former chair of the federal reserve bank.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Walters&nbsp;was married four times, first to business executive Robert Henry Katz in 1955. The union ended after just under a year. In 1963, Walters married producer, Lee Guber, and adopted a daughter, Jacqueline, in 1968. Walters and Guber split in 1976. After&nbsp;her second&nbsp;marriage came to an end, Walters married TV&nbsp;producer and real estate developer, Merv Adelson, from 1981 until 1984. The pair remarried again in 1986, divorcing for a final time in 1992.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Walters is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline.&nbsp;</p>

Barbara Walters, Legendary Journalist and TV Icon, Dead at 93

<p><a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/aaron-carter" rel="" target="_blank">Aaron Carter</a>, former teen heartthrob and younger brother of <a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/backstreet-boys" rel="" target="_blank">Backstreet Boys</a> singer, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/nick-carter" rel="" target="_blank">Nick Carter</a>, has died, ET can confirm. He was 34.</p>

<p>Aaron's manager, Taylor Helgeson, tells ET that reports that Aaron died "are true." Helgeson added that the family will release a statement shortly. He added, "Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time."</p>

<p>According to multiple reports, Aaron was found dead Saturday at his home in Lancaster, California, about an hour north of Los Angeles where multiple L.A. County Sheriff's vehicles were seen surrounding the home. <em><a href="https://www.tmz.com/2022/11/05/aaron-carter-dead-dies/" rel="" target="_blank">TMZ</a></em> reports a 911 call was made Saturday morning and responding authorities found Aaron's body in his bathtub. The cause of death has not been confirmed.</p>

<p>Aaron's death comes less than a year after he and his ex,&nbsp;Melanie Martin, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-and-fiancee-melanie-martin-welcome-first-child-together-175592" rel="" target="_blank">welcomed a baby boy</a>. The couple <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-and-fiancee-melanie-martin-split-1-week-after-welcoming-son-together-175856" rel="" target="_blank">split one week after Martin gave birth</a>, and she eventually&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carters-ex-fiancee-melanie-martin-requests-temporary-restraining-order-against-him-180394" rel="" target="_blank">requested a restraining order</a> against him after an alleged physical altercation.</p>

<p>The last several years proved to be a trying time for Aaron, who <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-shares-details-of-mental-health-diagnosis-i-have-nothing-to-hide-132216" target="_blank">went public</a>&nbsp;about being diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression in September 2019.&nbsp;Due to his mental health struggles, Aaron went on to cancel&nbsp;several multiple&nbsp;tour dates. Weeks after the&nbsp;mental health reveal, Nick obtained a retraining order against him,&nbsp;which led to a bitter war of words between the siblings.</p>

<p>Aaron subsequently&nbsp;announced&nbsp;that he was officially "done" with his estranged brother.&nbsp;"Take care. @nickcarter we’re done for life. I&nbsp;haven’t seen him in four years. And I don’t intend," he tweeted at the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The embattled singer&nbsp;later accused his late sister, Leslie,&nbsp;of <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-claims-he-was-raped-by-late-sister-leslie-132760" target="_blank">raping him</a> as a child. Aaron's <a href="https://www.etonline.com/nick-and-aaron-carters-sister-angel-welcomes-a-baby-girl-pics-117011" target="_blank">twin sister Angel</a>,&nbsp;was reportedly granted a restraining order against him as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The family strife was unfortunately not uncommon for the Carter family whose story has been riddled with highs and lows.</p>

<p>Aaron and his twin, Angel, were&nbsp;born in Tampa, Florida on Dec. 7. 1987. The pair are&nbsp;the&nbsp;youngest of the&nbsp;five Carter siblings&nbsp;along with sisters B.J. and Leslie, the latter of whom died from a 2012 drug overdose at age 25.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aaron began performing in the second grade, and went on to become the lead singer in a&nbsp;boy band called, Dead End, before leaving the group and later opening for the Backstreet Boys on tour.</p>

<p>By age 10, Aaron released his self-titled debut album, which sold more than nine&nbsp;million copies. Upon the release of his triple-platinum sophomore album, <i>Aaron’s Party</i>, the young singer&nbsp;hit the road with the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. In 2000, Aaron&nbsp;released the album,&nbsp;<i>Oh Aaron, </i>and made his Broadway debut the following year. He also appeared on <i>Lizzie McGuire</i> and began dating series star, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/145810_aaron_carter_talks_hilary_duff" target="_blank">Hillary Duff</a>. At one point, Aaron was dating Duff and Lindsay Lohan. The teenybopper love triangle started a small feud between the two young stars, that later fizzled after Aaron broke things off with Lohan, and later with Duff. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In between the release of his third and fourth albums, a then 14-year-old Aaron&nbsp;<a href="https://ew.com/article/2002/06/26/aaron-carter-sues-lou-pearlman-racketeering/" target="_blank">sued</a> his label head Lou Pearlman, for allegedly failing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties. The suit was later settled, but was one of many legal disputes between Aaron&nbsp;and Pearlman, who died in 2012 amid multiple allegations of child molestation, sexual misconduct and harassment, and&nbsp;shady business practices, some of which came to light in the documentary, <em><a href="https://www.etonline.com/backstreet-boys-react-to-lance-bass-claims-about-late-manager-lou-pearlman-in-new-documentary" target="_blank">Boy Ban Con</a></em>, produced by former N*Sync singer, Lance Bass.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aaron's career changed directions after his fourth studio album,&nbsp;<i>Another Earthquake!,&nbsp;</i>ended up being&nbsp;far less successful than its predecessors, and marked his final&nbsp;studio album under Jive Records. As his music career slowed down, Aaron turned back to&nbsp;acting, appearing in his third film, <i>Popstar</i>, which was a straight-to-video release. He&nbsp;also recorded a song for the film’s soundtrack.</p>

<p>In 2006, the "Hard to Love" singer and his siblings landed the E! reality show <em>House of Carters,</em>&nbsp;which aired for only eight episodes.&nbsp;That same year, Aaron&nbsp;announced his engagement to former Playboy model and beauty queen, Kari Ann Peniche, but the couple split that September.</p>

<p>Two years after the breakup, Aaron was arrested for speeding and marijuana possession. He went on to join the ninth season of&nbsp;<i>Dancing With the Stars</i> but&nbsp;was eliminated after eight weeks on the dance competition show. Following <em>DWTS,</em>&nbsp;Aaron&nbsp;released the 2010&nbsp;single, “Dance With Me.” In early 2011, Aaron checked himself into the Betty Ford Center where he completed one month of treatment.&nbsp;Several months later, Aaron&nbsp;returned to the stage and joined the cast of&nbsp;<i>The Fantasticks</i>, a small off-Broadway production. He left the play in 2013 and filed for bankruptcy that year,&nbsp;citing more than $3 million in debts, including a $1.3 million tax bill. Aaron’s financial issues were cleared up&nbsp;and he&nbsp;embarked on a small Canadian tour before releasing&nbsp;his&nbsp;<em>The Music Never Stopped </em>EP.</p>

<p>However, Aaron's physically gaunt appearance continued to be&nbsp;an area of concern for his fans. He hit back at alleged “<a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/aaron-carter-body-shamers-twitter_n_56532491e4b0d4093a5849b4" target="_blank">body shamers</a>” in a Twitter rant that&nbsp;blamed his extreme weight loss on stress and suffering from a hiatal hernia. “I cant’ even post videos or take pictures without feeling self conscience and it f**king sucks,” he&nbsp;tweeted.</p>

<p>As rumors about his sobriety persisted, Aaron sat down <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/186059_aaron_carter_says_he_found_an_inspirational_message_robert_downey_jr_left_rehab" target="_blank">with ET</a> to set the record straight.&nbsp;"I drink wine. I smoke weed. I have anxiety problems, I take medication for anxiety," he admitted in 2016.&nbsp;"I mean, it's just what it is. The misconceptions are that I'm a meth head, or I'm a crackhead, or I'm a drug addict, or I'm this or that."</p>

<p>Aaron maintained that he had “never” been addicted to the aforementioned drugs and blamed his appearance on genetics. "If you look at my parents, they have high cheekbones and [are] very skinny," he&nbsp;explained. "I don't want to always feel like I have to prove myself, but people put me in these positions, and that's fine."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Regardless of his attempts to make music his focus with the release of the&nbsp;<em>LOVE </em>EP and album of the same name, Aaron's personal battles continued to make headlines. In July 2017, Aaron&nbsp;was&nbsp;arrested again, this time for marijuana possession and suspicion of DUI. Weeks later, Aaron&nbsp;came out as bisexual (he later clarified that he had only been in relationships with women but was physically attracted to men as well). The next year, Aaron made an emotional appearance on <em><a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-takes-drug-test-doctors-told-his-combination-how-many-people-accidentally-die-87125" target="_blank">The Doctors</a>, </em>and<em>&nbsp;</em>checked into the&nbsp;Alo House Recovery Center&nbsp;in Malibu, California. The treatment stint allowed Aaron&nbsp;to work through the death of his father&nbsp;and his breakup with former girlfriend, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/news/221928_aaron_carter_talks_future_with_girlfriend_madison_parker_marriage_kids_and_maybe_a_reality_show" target="_blank">Madison Parker</a>. In 2018, Aaron&nbsp;began dating Russian artist, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-has-a-new-girlfriend-i-finally-found-my-love-110270" target="_blank">Lina Valentina</a>. The couple split in 2019, after nearly a year of dating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Lina and I have decided to go our separate ways," he&nbsp;said&nbsp;in a statement to ET at the time. "I was really hoping this would be the one that lasted forever. We had even talked about having kids, but we couldn’t seem to get past our differences and the relationship eventually turned unhealthy. I've been through so much the past few years and am trying to learn from my mistakes."</p>

<p>The tumultuous split with Valentina resulted in Aaron&nbsp;being granted a <a href="https://www.etonline.com/aaron-carter-reportedly-gets-restraining-order-against-ex-girlfriend-after-claiming-she-threatened" target="_blank">restraining order</a> against his ex in the early 2019. Months later,&nbsp;police were called out to perform&nbsp;a wellness check at Aaron's&nbsp;home in Lancaster, California, but determined that he was fine despite family concerns over his mental health. That same week, Aaron went on another Twitter rant about his weight and&nbsp;accused&nbsp;a flight attendant of body shaming him.</p>

<p>In August 2019, the embattled star&nbsp;took to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B1t1yyrlkHo/" target="_blank">Instagram</a>&nbsp;to celebrate&nbsp;two years of sobriety from an&nbsp;addiction to prescription pills.&nbsp;"A big journey ahead of me," Aaron&nbsp;wrote alongside "#Sober for 2 years." The post included a&nbsp;vow to put his family back together and an explanation of why he continued to smoke marijuana, in spite of&nbsp;being sober from pills.&nbsp;"Call it what you will. It helps and I’m an advocate."</p>

<p>Prior to his death, Aaron&nbsp;had plans to tour again, and released the single "Pyro" in September 2019. Despite what appeared to be an optimistic outlook on life, Aaron's inner demons ultimately got the best of him. He is survived by his mother, Jane, and siblings, Nick, Angel and B.J. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The actor's verified Twitter account <a href="https://twitter.com/James_Caan/status/1545090774517174272?s=20&amp;t=r7OHdkOreBADSdnEHFa3aw" target="_blank">released a statement</a>&nbsp;on Thursday, which reads, "It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time."</p>

<p>The son of Jewish-German immigrants,<b>&nbsp;</b>Caan was&nbsp;born in the Bronx, New York, on March 26, 1940. Over the course of 60 years, Caan's career crossed TV, film,&nbsp;and theater, but it wasn’t until college that he was officially bitten by the acting bug.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Caan’s focus was initially football. <p>Toward&nbsp;the latter part&nbsp;of his career, Caan became a regular on the series&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/tv/136989_James_Caan_Maggie_Lawson_Preview_Back_the_Game" target="_blank"><i>Back in the Game</i></a>, along with racking up film appearances in <i>A Fighting Man</i>, <i>The Outsider,</i> <i>Preggoland</i>, <i>The Wrong Boyfriend</i>, <i>The Good Neighbor</i>, <i>Undercover Grandpa,</i> <i>Out of Blue </i>and more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Caan married four times. His first marriage was to&nbsp;actress Dee Jay Mattis from&nbsp;1961 until 1966. Caan shares a daughter, Tara, with Mattis. He&nbsp;went on to marry actress Sheila Ryan in 1976. Although the union only lasted a year, they&nbsp;welcomed their son, Scott, in the summer of 1976.&nbsp;Caan’s third marriage was to Ingrid Hajek, whom he married in 1990. The pair had a son, Alex,&nbsp;prior to splitting in 1994. The following year, Caan married actress and costume designer&nbsp;Linda Stokes, with whom he had two more sons, James and Jacob. The couple divorced in 2009.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Caan is survived by five children and four grandchildren.&nbsp;</p>

James Caan, 'The Godfather' and 'Elf' Actor, Dies at 82

<p><a href="https://www.etonline.com/people/alejandro-fernandez" target="_blank">Alejandro Fernández</a> is paying tribute to his "viejo," late father <a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-gets-standing-ovation-after-moving-latin-grammy-awards-performance-136274" target="_blank">Vicente Fernández</a>.</p>

<p>The legendary GRAMMY-winning Mexican singer known as "The King of Ranchera Music" <a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-beloved-mexican-music-icon-dead-at-81-176458" target="_blank">died Dec. 12 at the age of 81.</a> On Thursday, which would have marked Vicente's 82nd birthday, his son took to social media to honor him by sharing a story about him.</p>

<p>"Here's a quick story," Alejandro began in Spanish. "On the day of the first photo, I was headed to an event for an album. I've never been prone to getting nervous, but that day something that bothered me."</p>

<p>"My hands were shaking a little and I felt my heart beat out of my chest," he continued. "Minutes before going on stage, my dad entered the dressing room. He looked at me like he knew what was going on. He approached and grabbed my tie, because it was the only thing that wasn't done."</p>

<p>He recalled his father saying to him, "Come here, mijo. I'm going to tie that tie for you like when you were a baby."</p>

<p>"Without a doubt, it was the only detail that was missing," Alejandro continued, wishing him a happy birthday and adding that not a single day goes by that he's not thinking about him. "Feliz cumpleaños hasta el cielo, viejo. No hay un solo día que la familia no te lleve a donde quiera que vayamos. Te amo por siempre! ♥️."</p>

<p>Alejandro's son, Alex, also posted a photo of them with Vicente, writing how much he misses his grandfather.</p>

<p>Vicente's official Instagram also posted a photo of the artist taking a bow.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-dead-at-81-maluma-ricky-martin-and-more-pay-tribute-176465" target="_blank">Vicente's death</a> came after he was hospitalized and on a ventilator <a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-everything-we-know-about-his-health-condition-after-suffering-fall-170649" target="_blank">after suffering a severe fall</a>. On August 9, his family expressed that <a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-in-serious-but-stable-condition-after-severe-fall-170262" target="_blank">he was in serious but stable condition</a> after injuring his cervical spine.</p>

<p>"Don Vicente Fernández's current state is undoubtedly serious but stable after he suffered a fall that caused trauma to his cervical spine," the statement read in part, in Spanish. "At the moment he is post-operation and finds himself with ventilatory assistance and critical patient care in the intensive care unit."</p>

<p>Vicente amassed&nbsp;a catalog of hits like "Soy de Abajo," "Palabra de Rey," "Perdóname," and his legendary classic "Volver, Volver." At the height of his fame, Vicente regularly performed to packed arenas.&nbsp;In 2016, he took the stage for his final tour performance at Mexico City's&nbsp;Aztec Stadium as thousands of fans came to bid him farewell. The music legend, whose performance uniform consisted of a traditional Mexican charro adorned with beaded accents and his signature sombrero, sold more than 50 million records worldwide, won three GRAMMY Awards, nine&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/rosalia-anitta-luis-fonsi-pedro-capo-and-more-to-perform-at-2019-latin-grammys-135214" target="_blank">Latin GRAMMYS</a>&nbsp;and 14 Lo Nuestro Awards.</p>

<p>Born on Feb.&nbsp;17, 1940, in the rural town of Huentitán El Alto in Jalisco, Mexico, Vicente grew up working on his father’s ranch, and in his uncle’s restaurant, but his dream was to become an entertainer, like Mexican balero idol&nbsp;Pedro Infante.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>“When I was six&nbsp;or seven, I&nbsp;would go see Pedro Infante’s movies, and I would tell my mother, ‘When I grow up, I’ll be like him,’” he once explained&nbsp;in an&nbsp;interview.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vicente learned to play guitar at eight&nbsp;years old. By fifth grade, he dropped out of school and worked whatever odd jobs he could&nbsp;find to help support his family who moved to Tijuana after his father lost their ranch. In 1954, Vicente won&nbsp;first place in an amateur singing competition, which led to more small singing gigs, although it would take several years&nbsp;before he caught the attention of a major record label.</p>

<p>Now fully devoted to launching his career, Vicente did whatever he could to land a break, including moving to&nbsp;Mexico City and working as a restaurant singer. With no&nbsp;luck, Vicente moved back to Guadalajara and married his former neighbor,&nbsp;Maria del Refugio "Cuca" Abarca Villasenor, in 1963. The year was an emotional one for Vicente, whose mother died from cancer within a week of his son, Vicente Jr., being born three months premature.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the music front, Vicente was on the brink&nbsp;of a major opportunity. The&nbsp;sudden death of Infante, and other Mexican megastars of the era, left a void for record labels to fill with fresh talent. After the death of Javier Solís&nbsp;in 1966, Vicente signed with CBS Mexico (Sony Music), one of the labels that initially turned him down. Under the&nbsp;CBS Mexico imprint, Vicente recorded early hits like “Tu Camino y El Mio” and “Perdóname.” His greatest&nbsp;hit, “Volver, Volver,” was released in 1972. With his music career on the fast track, Vicente broke into acting, appearing in films like&nbsp;<em>Tacos al Carbon</em> and <em>Uno y Medio Contra el Mundo</em>, followed by a starring role in 1976’s<i> </i><em>La Ley del Monte</em>. Vicente appeared in more than 30 films,&nbsp;in addition to singing the soundtracks for some of the projects. The work ethic&nbsp;that he picked up in childhood extended to the stage,&nbsp;even when facing the most tragic&nbsp;of circumstances. In 1970, he famously continued performing despite learning that his father had died. Years later, Vicente refused to cancel a tour despite his son being kidnapped for several months.</p>

<p>In 1984, Vicente earned&nbsp;his first platinum-selling album,<i>15 Grandes con el Número Uno, </i>and his first GRAMMY nomination. He was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1988, and won the&nbsp;first of his many Nuestro Awards the following year. Throughout the ‘90s, Vicente released a string of hit songs, and received&nbsp;a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.</p>

<p>In 2002, the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences&nbsp;named Vicente its Person of the Year.&nbsp; In 2006, he released the comeback album, <i>La Tragedia del Vaquero</i>. That year,&nbsp;Sony commemorated his tenure in the music business with the greatest hits album, <i>La Legend Viviente</i> (<em>The Living Legend</em>). More than 40 years into his career, Vicente made history&nbsp;with his 2008 performance film&nbsp;<i>Primera Fila</i>, which became the top-selling musical DVD in the U.S. He followed up with the successful albums&nbsp;<i>Necesito de Ti</i>,&nbsp; <i>El Hombre Que Más Te Amó</i>, both of which earned GRAMMYs, and the 2011’s <i>Otra Vez</i>.</p>

<p>For as much as he loved the stage, Vicente knew when it was time to walk away. Having recorded more than 300 songs, many of which have never been heard, Vicente had&nbsp;enough music in the vault to release numerous posthumous albums. He officially retired from live performances in 2016, though he&nbsp;vowed to continue releasing music. Two years later,&nbsp;Vicente debuted&nbsp;<i>Más Romántico Que Nunca</i>,<i> </i>a 12-track LP&nbsp;of love songs that earned him a Latin GRAMMY in 2019. He also&nbsp;brought the&nbsp;crowd to its&nbsp;feet with a <a href="https://www.etonline.com/vicente-fernandez-gets-standing-ovation-after-moving-latin-grammy-awards-performance-136274" target="_blank">surprise performance</a> during the ceremony, which included son Alejandro and grandson Alex.</p>

<p>His final album, <em>A Mis 80's</em>, was released in 2020. It is currently nominated for a 2022 GRAMMY Award for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano).</p>
