Weisz & Day-Lewis Top NYFCC Picks Alongside 'Zero'

Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln and The Deep Blue Sea star Rachel Weisz have been awarded the top male and female acting awards of 2012 by the New York Film Critics Circle, with Sally Field also getting notice as Best Supporting Actress for Lincoln. But before you start to think that Steven Spielberg's biopic of our 16th president also has been named Best Picture, think again: Zero Dark Thirty has stealthily snuck in to claim the top prize, with its helmer Kathryn Bigelow nabbing the Best Director award.

The awards were tweeted one-by-one today by the NYFCC, doling out other big awards as well: Matthew McConaughey has been named Best Supporting Actor for his performances in both Bernie and Magic Mike, and Best Animated Film went to Tim Burton's Frankenweenie.

The choices are interesting to note in that both Argo and Les Miserables have entered the awards season as titles to beat in 2012, but were curiously omitted by the NYFCC at the finish line.
