Anna Wintour Cracks a Perfect 'Devil Wears Prada' Joke With Anne Hathaway During Surprise Broadway Appearance

Anne Hathaway starred in the 2006 hit 'The Devil Wears Prada,' loosely based off Wintour's life.

All right everyone! Gird your loins.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway reunited on stage during a performance of Gutenberg! The Musical! on Wednesday night. The duo, known for their individual prowess in the fashion and film worlds, respectively, took a playful jab at the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada.

Hathaway starred as Andy Sachs in the film, the assistant to the ruthless Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. The character of Miranda is loosely based off Wintour.

The Broadway show, starring Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, features a unique ending where a celebrity appears as a "Broadway producer" to present the main characters with a contract for their musical within a musical. This time, the surprise guests were Wintour and Hathaway, who injected humor into the moment.

Wintour, not typically associated with a self-deprecating sense of humor, declared herself as "a very famous Broadway producer" to the amusement of the audience. However, she didn't miss the chance to playfully introduce Hathaway as her assistant, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

The witty ad-lib referenced Hathaway's role in The Devil Wears Prada. The 2006 film, based on Lauren Weisberger's novel, drew inspiration from Weisberger's experience as one of Wintour's assistants.

Broadway producer Jordan Roth captured the delightful moment on Instagram, hailing it as "THE BEST thing you'll see all day." The unexpected reunion was orchestrated by Wintour herself, surprising many attendees. It turns out that Wintour's daughter, Bee Carrozzini, also serves as a producer on the show.

This isn't the first time the fashionable duo has caused a stir together. Last year, they made headlines sitting next to each other at a Michael Kors fashion show. Fans of The Devil Wears Prada were thrilled when Hathaway donned an outfit almost identical to her character's, although she insisted it was purely coincidental.
